tl;dr in two words: it's cool.
Right off the bat, it seems like this show (at the moment) doesn't take itself too seriously with its near comical bandits and obvious irony. Reminded me all too much of Fairy Tail's 1st episode, but unlike Fairy Tail, this didn't suck balls and make me feel like it was made for people with the attention span of a goldfish. The characters and their designs are pretty appealing and comedy is pretty okay I guess (standard self-aware, irreverent, postmodernist fare) but it hasn't completely sold me just yet. I absolutely fuck with the characters and their designs doe— they're very appealing and I'm slightly intrigued as to where this goes. The highlight of this episode was definitely the long conversation in the forest between Gourry and Lina after Gourry beats the shit out of those Dragon Fang clan guys or whatever; it does a pretty good job at characterization and establishing a relationship between those two characters.
