Nothing is dropped forever. That I stick with, and that's why I am not shy nor concerned to drop anything at all.
Some shows do things well and wouldn't be a pain to sit through, yet aren't all that interesting and after half a year or so, you would probably forget most of the characters' name as well as plot details other than the major cornerstones.
And one of those shows happens to be Yumekui Merry.
It's one of those shows I hear people often start with, and it makes sense. The aesthetic is sharp, the colors are pleasant and the character designs are pretty cool, even if the main character looks like Accelerator and Misaka Mikoto made up and decided to found a family together.
Likewise, the plot is not anything outstanding, but rather simple and well-constructed; A boy meets a girl from another world and allows her to stay with him until she can figure out how to go back. The boy also has supernatural powers, that don't change his life in a major way, but that happen to link back to the world the girl came from. Initially, she mostly fights other invaders from her world while trying to gather clues on how to return, until she finds out that maybe she didn't just send them back as she had thought, but rather killed them. Anime 101; Simple setup and premise, careful twists, and likable characters developing an enjoyable bond.
It's one of the shows I don't drop because they're bad - but rather because they're average. By the end this would most likely turn out a 5/10. I wouldn't regret finishing it. But at the same time, my basic problems - bad dialogue, boring character writing, unexciting and predictable story - won't change. It's one of the first show I think I'm gonna come back to sometimes when I want to have the aesthetic for a bit, but while I'm working on my massive backlog, I don't feel the want to spend an evening finishing this show now.
