Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm // 蒼の彼方のフォーリズム
Fly with all your ability to penetrate a limit that has never been known before. That's at least a little value that can be obtained from Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm. How did this Visual Novel break the line by winning the 2014 Moege Award?
How does it feel if flying is as easy as cycling? Of course anyone can fly anywhere without having to bother going to the airport to buy tickets and other long affairs. Especially if we can fly privately, we can go to markets, supermarkets without having to fear traffic. It's fun, right?
At least that is experienced by Hinata Masaya, one of the students on one of the artificial islands where flying can be as easy as cycling and this is Flying Circus, a sporting name that can make friends find happiness and sadness. Kurashina Asuka transfer student from outside the island accidentally met Masaya and that's where Asuka felt how it felt to fly, which had been her dream since childhood.
After getting to know the feeling of flying, Asuka was naturally immediately attracted to Flying Circus, and he asked Masaya to teach him from scratch. Whereas Masaya himself ‘used to’ was a Flying Circus athlete. But for some reason he 'hung shoes' from there. Seeing Asuka's spirit, will Masaya return to fly once more?
Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm will be written next AoKana is the second Visual Novel by Sprite after Koi to Senkyo no Chocolate. As a studio that is not 'too productive', Sprite is fairly total in every work. 'Smooth' character design, strong and unique character traits, and complex storyline. But that also becomes a weapon to eat, sir. Personally, if I don't finish until at least halfway, I'm still confused here and there, starting with the rules in the game Flying Circus, Gravity Shoes (shoes used to be able to fly), to the terms used in Flying Circus sports (like High Yo- Yo, Low Yo-Yo and others). But lucky with the ‘totality’ of Sprites, all of that can be clear with the help of interactive images. Although it is not entirely clear, but at least it is enough to understand the storyline.
In addition, although I have been studying Japanese long enough, yet I feel that the vocabulary I have mastered is still insufficient to understand every monologue, especially discussing the 'special' about Flying Circus.
Switch to character recognition
There are four main characters in this Visual Novel
Kurashina Asuka
Accidentally met with Masaya when he first entered school. Cheerful, enthusiastic and never give up. His favorite animal is the Flying Fish
Tobisawa Misaki
Masaya's classmate, and one of the experienced Flying Circus players. Looks 'slengehan' and doesn't like boring things.
Arisaka Mashiro
First graders, and ‘very sticky’ with Misaki. It sounds noisy and 'tsundere', but actually he's quite a loner. Loves playing games and playing belly sounds with her doll. Oh, yes he is also the son of Udon shop owner.
Ichinose Rika
Masaya's new neighbor attends Takafuji High School. Very familiar with Mashiro after a number of exercises together.
Well, since I did not enter the main route, Asuka (instead stuck with the cuteness of Mashiro), so I can't say much. But certainly AoKana really presents a complex story without having to follow the trend of high school love stories that we usually encounter in Visual Novels in general. If I call it a realistic story style with enough 'seasoning'.
Besides Asuka, the Misaki route is no less good, some even say Misaki is better than Asuka in terms of the storyline. It's all a matter of taste, just choose what you like. I, who entered the Mashiro route, are also quite satisfied with the story, although finally we don't know what secrets are there in Asuka and Misaki
Furthermore, maybe many people already know that AoKana also has Animen adaptation. A total of 12 episodes were released in 2015. Not stopping there, AoKana also got the adaptation of PS Vita, Android and iOS Mobile versions and also PS4. What are you trying?
Unlike the anime adaptation, especially if friends don't enter the main route, Inui Saki, one of the characters who is the strongest enemy in Flying Circus, is not so highlighted. So what? Be happy because AoKana has a sequel. It's called Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm-Zwei-. With Inui Saki as the main heroine. Although it's not certain when it will be released, but for friends who are waiting please be patient.
As mentioned above, that AoKana won the Moege Award in 2014. Beat more than 50 other titles. AoKana can win with a vast difference in points thanks to its varied storylines, according to the opinion of the Moege Award team.
Finally, what actually makes AoKana so hype? Though the story is also quite heavy. It is undeniable that the name Sprite is also one of the triggers, although not much work, their totality in making a work must be recognized. Anime adaptation? Moreover. The name of watching anime is easier than reading Visual Novel, it can be considered as a summary.
For those of you who like Sci-Fi Visual Novels with a spice of romance and story style that is not too 'bragging' this might be one of the best recommendations for you.
