uhmm whaat this anime is actually really good??? I'm impressed I think it's because I came into Yu-Gi-Oh with such high expectations but honestly the story and the battle in episode 1 didn't really impress me and barely entertained me. I guess it's because I was expecting to be dazzled too much? I mean, the demographic of that anime is like 5 year old boys... and it shows Hikaru no Go I thought would be the same-ish so I guess in other words, I came into Hikaru no Go with pretty low expectations, but it's actually a lot better than I remember and it actually has a story and I really like the dynamic between the Sai and well I'm guessing the main character's name is Hikaru? Even the voice actors seem like they have some kind of dynamic or friendship going on there I don't know Also this anime, Hikaru no Go, is ranked surpringly high on MyAnimeList Score 8.15 Ranked #381Popularity #1120Members 95,716Fall 2001TVStudio Pierrot --- To give you some perspective, this is Pokemon's MAL stats 7.42Ranked #2025Popularity #244Members 358,292 and this is Yu-Gi-Ohs (the original one that no one really knows of; I think people my age grew up with the Duel Masters version or definitely a different version or something but still) 7.29Ranked #2614Popularity #764Members 141,665 - Hikaru no Go takes place in Tokyo - So Sai was a go instructor for the emperor... sadness sadness... he.. basically killed himself (in the dub he said he "cast himself in the river" ...meaning he drowned. also man this anime is prett ydark for a children's anime but yeah) He still haunts the earth as a ghost because he has unfinished business. He wants to use some ultimate move that I don't even remember the name of... That'll probably haunt us unti lthe end of the series or something and yeah (edit ok I know the name now... ish. The narrator calls it "The Divine Move") - Also I don't really know how to play Go... I played it a few times when I was little (probbly because of this anime honestly lol even though I think only watched the first two episodes then stopped...) I do know if you surround an enemy piece two horizonallt yand two vertically, you grab your enemy's piece. And it's only three if your near the edge or something I didn't realize you're supposed to look at the pieces like prsoners.... or at least when they're captured Also honestly the positions Sai tells Hikaru to go to really confuse me. Why is it called 8 5? I tried counting to see what position he was talking about... it was four vertical lines away from the enemy line edge or something I don't know I tried looking for a go guide, for like ten seconds... No avail. I should try again later but yeah I'm really invested in this anime yeah yeah!! - Yeah so Akira lost by two points everyone was seriously so surprised then the front desk lady was all like what, that boy (Hikaru) told me he had never played a gam [of Go] in his life Then Akira was all like "What?! Who, who is he?" - Huh so there's an after credit scene with real life 3D people and it's a lady presumably teaching a boy and a girl how to play go, in the Kissanime dub version I'm watching anyway. No subtitles though. I'M WATCHING IT RAW~!! Honestly since this is a children's anime after, the Japanese is very simple; I can pretty much relaly understand what's going on without subtitles. BECAUSE IM JUST THAT GOOD BWAHAHAHA ahahaha... I. I'm kidding; I'm not that good lol and the afte rcredit scene is like enty seconds long lol - Also I actually find it really impressive this anime has such a hold on me, even if I took like a decade to twelve year long break from it I actually don't like chess or shogi or any of those games... I'm surprised karuto interests me... (though that's a card game) But anyway yeah I think go is like Japanese checkers and shogi is like Japanese chess, I believe But Go is classy af and only the high-class sophisticated people would play it two to three generations ago (like Chess); pretty much any American in existence has definitely played checkers
