Dear god I just realized the reason I don't enjoy this arc all that much is that it REALLY REALLY REMINDS ME OF CHESS

I'm actually genuinely trying my best to at least understand my dad's obsession with chess (honestly knowing him, he's probably playing that right now on his phone or PC or tablet or whatever lol)
I'm sorry but I remember watching this film called "Searching for Bobby Fischer" on the HBO add-on on Hulu iirc lol honestly thinking he would show up or at least be in the film as a cameo or whatever- BUT HE NEVER SHOWED UP LOL and the film's title was essentially a misnomer and probably only contained the name Bobby Fischer to attract people's interest, which it did; it attracted mine unfortunately and I found the film incredibly boring especially because nothing really seems like it's happening to me, and how Shikamaru and Asuma are in this match with Hidan and Kakuzu LOOKS SO BORING because it reminds me way too much of chess, and that horrible film also Bobby Fischer is a terrible person don't look him up fam (I looked him up after I watched the film. Total yike)
edit: It's a bit strange to me that I find this fight with Shikamaru so uninteresting though, because in the chunin exam arc of original Naruto, Shikamaru's fight with Temari was actually one of my most favorite in the entire show franchise and one of the most interesting fights imo because it involved so much thinking and next to no hand-to-hand action combat
